Ashley is an enthusiastic Registered Dietitian whose love for food (including chocolate!), and interest in how food plays a fundamental role in health at every life stage, led her to a successful career in nutrition and dietetics.
As an active teenager in multiple sports, Ashley found it challenging to know where to get evidence-based advice on healthy eating and was overwhelmed by all the diet trends and “health food” marketing. She followed a vegetarian diet for several years without any nutrition knowledge and was told she had low iron levels. Her experience sparked a passion for educating people on how to incorporate more vegetarian meals and how to balance food groups no matter their food preferences or restrictions.
Ashley completed her Human Nutrition degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia with an undergraduate thesis on the cost of gluten free products in rural Nova Scotia. She continued her studies at the University of Guelph graduating with a Masters in Applied Nutrition and interned at several public health and clinical placements in Toronto.
After graduating, Ashley worked as a dietitian in retail stores in Sudbury and western Ontario building her product knowledge, cooking skills, and practical meal planning and grocery shopping advice to customers and her clients. Her love for interacting with people and providing personalized nutrition advice has fueled her passion for providing individual counselling.
Ashley has a supportive counselling style working with individuals in making healthy lifestyle changes that are both realistic, and sustainable. The most rewarding parts of her job include celebrating client successes, solving nutrition-related issues and helping individuals have a positive relationship with food. Her career goal is to help make healthy eating easier for individuals and families and be a reliable resource of nutrition information.
As a public speaker, and former theatre arts student, Ashley is a natural communicator and enjoys facilitating nutrition presentations and group seminars. She has presented national webinars for Diabetes Canada and delivered many seminars for workplace wellness on various nutrition topics.
