Bissan Ghaith is a Registered Dietitian with a passion for food, psychology and fitness. Bissan’s interest in nutrition started at a young age with a strong desire to learn more about the power of food and its effect on the body and mind. Health and wellness have always been a focal point in Bissan’s life, especially since she has a strong family history of diabetes. Bissan understands that nutrition is more than what we eat and is interested in breaking barriers that people may have towards making and maintaining healthy lifestyle changes. She does this through translating evidence-based research into practical, realistic recommendations.
Bissan completed her nutrition degree at Brescia University College (BUC), with a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition and a major in psychology. She then went on to complete the Diploma in Dietetic Education and practical training (DDEPT) program, a Post-Degree Diploma at BUC with internship placements throughout various locations in rural Ontario. After graduating, Bissan has worked as a dietitian in a family health team where she has gained valuable experience in individual counselling, meal planning, and nutrition education.
Bissan’s approach to counselling is based on Motivational Interviewing, a personalized approach to creating and maintaining healthy lifestyle goals. This approach is highly effective in helping clients understand why certain habits tend to form and identifying ways to replace them. Bissan’s ability to actively listen to clients and guide them towards their own practical, sustainable goals and solutions is what makes working with her empowering and rewarding.
Having a strong understanding of human behaviour and nutritional sciences, Bissan is able to collaborate with doctors and other members of her clients’ health team to help achieve the best possible client outcomes. She also works as a consulting Dietitian in a long-term care home where her role is to ensure that all residents have their nutrition and hydration needs met while promoting a good quality of life.
Bissan’s specialties include:
- Weight loss and weight management
- Chronic disease prevention and management (heart health, diabetes, IBS)
- Mindful and emotional eating
- Healthy eating on a budget (healthy eating doesn’t have to break the bank!)
- Pediatric nutrition (picky eating, growth concerns)
- Dysphagia management (swallowing assessments, managing swallowing disorders)
Bissan is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario. She also loves to learn and has certifications in Motivational Interviewing, Mental Health First Aid Training and recently became a Craving Change (™) facilitator. By using the Craving Change™ method, Bissan teaches clients cognitive-behavioural tools, activities and strategies to help overcome problematic and emotional eating behaviours.
In her spare time, Bissan loves discovering different hiking trails in her city, exploring new coffee shops, spending time with her friends and family, and definitely catching up on the latest shows on Netflix. To connect with Bissan, book online or request an appointment!
You can also book a complimentary 20-min call to discuss your goals and ask a couple of nutrition-related questions.
As a Registered Dietitian, Bissan’s role involves motivating her clients to be the best version of themselves and she believes this quote by Zig Ziglar best captures the essence of motivation,“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily”.
